Wedgewood Investments Kept Home Vacant for Over 18 Months

Today, two mothers without shelter, born and raised in Oakland, will retake possession of a vacant investor-owned property in West Oakland. The mothers, Dominique and Sameerah, are the founding members of Moms for Housing, created to address the extreme challenges working mothers face in finding safe and affordable housing for themselves and their children.

WHAT: A press conference to announce the Moms for Housing’s intention to remain in the vacant, investor-owned home until it is returned to the Oakland community. Their supporters are surrounding the home, and will remain in place until the transfer of the home to community control has been negotiated.

WHERE : Meet at West Oakland Farm Park, 2847 Peralta St, Oakland, CA 94608, to learn the location

WHEN : Supporters to gather at 10:30 am and move to the location at 11:00 am

WHO : Moms for Housing is a collective of homeless and marginally housed mothers coming together to reclaim housing for the Oakland community.

WHY : Because there are four vacant homes in Oakland for every person without a home.
