Housing is a Human Right
There are four times as many empty homes in Oakland as there are people without homes.
Some of these people are children.
No one should be homeless when homes are sitting empty. Housing is a human right. Moms 4 Housing are uniting mothers, neighbors and friends to reclaim housing for the Oakland community from the big banks and real estate speculators.
Moms 4 Housing is a collective of homeless and marginally housed mothers. Before we found each other, we felt alone in this struggle. But there are thousands of others like us here in Oakland and all across the Bay Area. We are coming together with the ultimate goal of reclaiming housing for the community from speculators and profiteers.
We are mothers, we are workers, we are human beings, and we deserve housing. Our children deserve housing. Housing is a human right.
We envision a world where every mother has the resources, support, and community necessary to secure a safe and nurturing home. We believe that when moms thrive, communities flourish. Together, we can break the cycle of homelessness and create lasting change for generations to come.
OUR VISION
Creating a pathway for families to flourish
Celebrating Our Impact
Supporting Our Neighbors
Our free organic produce markets provide healthy produce to our neighbors and community. We love giving back to our community.
Nurturing Our Children
We offer a lifeline to unhoused moms and their children by offering a transitional housing program that spans two critical years and includes financial education, a nurturing atmosphere of accountability, and a clear path from financial struggle to long-term stability.
Knowledge
Sharing
Through organizing and community engagement, we raise awareness and grow networks of support from residents who can advocate for the change they want in their neighborhoods. People-power is critical to bringing about change. It also strengthens our network and collective impact in the fight for housing justice.
Advocacy and Policy Creation
We are dedicated to serving our community through advocacy and policy initiatives. In collaboration with stakeholders, we helped pass measures that protect renters and expand access to affordable housing. Our work inspires local and state legislation to stop speculation in California.
Nonviolent Direct Action
Our organization continues to utilize nonviolent direct action as a tool to address housing insecurity and instability.
Housing is a Human Right!
We fought for a home...
and started a movement.
